Going to an auction can end as an expensive excursion…..

Two of the biggest traps on an auction :  You are not prepared and overbidding.

Before an auction, ensure you’ve done research into the market, to enable you to determine a realistic value of the items to your interest. You will be able to set a realistic limit, which will avoid you from overpaying for an item.

You should also view items beforehand, to ensure you know the exact condition of the items.

Do not bid blind.

If an item is in a box, it does not mean it is new.

Ensure you know and understand the commission structure of the auction house.

It is wise to go into the auction with a bidding strategy:

  • Arrive early, to locate  yourself ,where you can been seen by the auctioneer and also able to see the other bidders
  • Decide what tone of voice / gesture you will adopt
  • Decide what  type of clothing you wear

An auction can be a highly charged atmosphere and can be easy swept away in the moment, especially if you have your heart set on an item. Very important, know exactly what your maximum limit is. Step back if it’s passed.

5 Things NOT to do at Auction

  • Don’t talk to somebody, while bidding
  • Don’t phone a friend
  • Don’t bring the whole family along
  • Don’t  make silly bids
  • Don’t be rude to the auctioneer

Auctions are fun, get ready, set, run !!!!!
